Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is the Premier Catholic University in Uganda, owned by the Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops of Uganda. It was officially launched on 18th October 1993 and granted a Charter by the Government of Uganda on 2nd April 2005. UMU is one of the leading private not for profit universities in the country.

UMU is a direct link with the ‘Centre of the World’, with an environmentally friendly campus ideal for studying, learning and reflection. Students are able to compound their academic experience with touristic adventures as they stand at the very point where the northern and the southern hemispheres cross. Our main campus is located along the equator at Nkozi – Mpigi district, 83km South of Kampala, the capital city with other campuses located across the Ecclesiastical Provinces of Uganda that is; Lubaga, Nsambya, Masaka, Mbale, Kabale, Fort Portal and Ngetta in Lira.

Uganda Martyrs University has eight (8) Faculties, three (3) Schools and two (2) Institutes with academic programmes that are relevant to local and global development needs and goals. These include; the School of Postgraduate Studies and Research, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Mother Kevin Postgraduate Medical School, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Business Administration and Management, Faculty of the Built Environment, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Institute of Ethics, Institute of Languages and Communication Studies. The University awards Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelors, Masters and PhDs in various fields with 78 degree programmes: 40 under-graduate programmes, 34 Masters programmes and four Doctoral Programmes. The current enrolment is over 5000 students, comprising full-time, part time and distance learners.

The University is well known and recognized for offering quality higher education in various academic fields and for holistic development of our students as Christian Ethics is a compulsory course for every student enrolled at UMU. As a result, our students are highly employable in the job market. To date, we have produced over 20,000 graduates serving the country and beyond. In 2016, given her track record of excellence and making a difference in society, UMU, through a very competitive process was selected by the World Bank to host the African Centre of Excellence in Agro-ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE). At the same time, UMU hosts a UN Centre of Expertise for Mainstreaming Education for Sustainable Development in Uganda.
